Back to school
At the beginning of February, I received a delightful invitation to participate with my art in Pelgulinna State Gymnasium’s World Education Day. I was pleasantly surprised by this invitation, as I hadn’t had an exhibition in a long time, and the school is quite close to my home, which made it a particularly dear event.
The World Education Day took place on February 17th, and this time I decided to display 20 works at the exhibition. I was pleased to exhibit some paintings by Lucas Nikolas in addition to my own works. Lucas is a young and talented artist who aims to surpass his father as an artist.
Upon arrival, we placed the paintings on easels and added labels. This was followed by a meeting with two classes, where a video clip about our family was first viewed together. After that, our family was invited to the class to answer the students’ questions. To nurture creativity, we also added a task to the program where students drew giraffes, sheep, sunsets, or oak trees on the chalkboards on the walls. The task turned out to be very enjoyable, and I was delighted to choose my favorite illustration from their works. Then we viewed the paintings placed on easels with the students. I showed my favorite piece, and the students had chosen their favorites and commented on why they chose them.
The school also organized a small tour for our family. It was astonishing to see the grand wooden structure the school is housed in – the interior is tastefully decorated and very well maintained.
The exhibition will remain at the school until March 6th. I am extremely grateful to everyone who helped make this event possible and for the creative day that broadened both my worldview and that of the young people.
A big thank you to the invitees!
